Heather McMurray - Operations Manager

Heather McMurray - Operations Manager

Heather has been employed as Carew II's Operations Manager since November 2002, having previously worked in the Centre on a voluntary basis for 11 years. She is am also a founder member of Newtownards Road Women’s Group Ltd. Heather is responsible for the management of existing services provided by the Centre and for encouraging the participation of local people in all aspects of the project. She has a remit for the development of the organisation and it’s activities and the development of Management Systems and procedures.

Heather represents the organisation on various committees and groups covering a wide range of issues and has been involved in consultations, contributed to discussion groups, taken part in policy-making decisions and workshops and advisory committees which represent the Community Sector.

Alison Magill - Training Officer

When Carew II opened in 2000 my son started going to the Little Ducks Playgroup. As a local parent I became interested in what the organisation had to offer. In 2001 I join the Management Committee and was elected as Treasurer. I enrolled on a number of computer classes and hold quantifications in MOS word, excel, ECDL, Sage, A+. I achieved NVQ Level 3 in Finance Management and I have recently completed in a Business Enterprise Course Level 3. During September 2005 I became Interim Training Officer then after a successful interview I was recruited as Training Officer in September 2006.

Pamela Black – Finance Administrator

Pamela joined the Company back in the old Carew Centre in May 1994 as a part-time Admin Assistant. She worked in a very small office with the very minimum of equipment. Her work has increased 10-fold since then and she holds many responsibilities including staff wages, payment of invoices, petty cash and providing the necessary financial information which is required by our many funders. Pamela is a very valuable member of staff.

Angela Fothergill – Part time Administrator/Receptionist

Angela enrolled for a CLAIT course in the Centre and kindly volunteered her time to cover the Reception desk in October 2000 which she continued to do until she secured part-time employment with the Company in April 2001. Angela’s main duties include reception duties, telephone, mail, filing and maintaining records for Trainees who are currently on Training Courses. She has completed an NVQ II in Horticulture within the Centre and helps out in our own garden on a regular basis. Angela can turn her hand at most things and is very creative and is a very welcoming and helpful member of staff.

Joan McCullough - Part time Administrator/Receptionist

Joan has been with the Centre since January 2003. She works part-time, mostly in the afternoons. Her main duties include Reception, telephone, mail and maintaining records for Trainees who are currently on Training Courses.

Joan would have a lot of contact with the older children who use the after-school club and the children have a lot of fun ‘winding her up’ and feeding her sweeties, but Joan gives as good as she gets and the banter is enjoyed by all. Joan enjoys designing the majority of posters and advertisements for the Centre and takes great pride in her work.

Maureen Wallace – Afterschool Leader and Childcare Worker

Maureen started with the NRWG as an unqualified crèche worker in April 1995. In September of the same year she started in the Playgroup as a trainee Assistant under the ACE scheme. In May 1996 Maureen moved over to the Afterschool Club as an unqualified Assistant and gained her NVQ Level II in Playwork qualification within the Centre. Not content with this Maureen went on to achieve her NVQ Level III in Playwork. When the post of Afterschool Leader became vacant Maureen applied for the position and was successful, she became Leader in February 1999.

Maureen also works in the crèche which is provided for the children of trainees who are participating in training courses within Carew II.

Martine Bell – Afterschool Assistant & Crèche Worker

Martine started as a Crèche/Childcare Worker in September 2000 with various qualifications including NVQ Level III Childcare, First Aid, Managing Challenging Behaviour, Child Protection and Disability Awareness Training. When a vacancy arose for an Afterschool Club Assistant in February 2001, Martine applied for the post and was successful. Martine is our nominated ‘Special Needs’ worker and helps out in the Crèche as required.

Cherith McClure - Playgroup Leader – Little Owls

Cherith has been working as Leader in the Little Owls Playgroup for 7 years. She holds NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Early Years Care & Education. Cherith also holds certificates in Child Protection, First Aid, Developing 7 areas of the curriculum, Equality and Diversity, Inclusive Play, Supporting and supervising Staff, Meeting the Challenge of behaviour Management, NIPPA Observation and Recording Tools and Sign Language.

Lyndsay Agnew – Playgroup Assistant – Little Owls

Lyndsay started her NVQ level 2 training in September 2002. Her placement was in Strand Playgroup and she worked there two mornings per week. After completing her level 2 she continued in Strand Playgroup to carry out level 3. This was completed in June 2004. Lyndsay has completed a course in Autism and holds her first aid certificate.

Lisa Wilson – Pre-school Leander – Little Ducks

Lisa started with Little Ducks in September 2006. She has lived in the area all of her life and is the mother of 2 boys aged 12 and 2.

She completed the NNEB Diploma in 1997 and was employed immediately within a Barnardos project, working with children aged 2-5 years. Initially Lisa worked in a supporting role and gaining valuable experience before becoming a key worker. Lisa remained there for 5 years and completed the Advanced Diploma in Childcare and Education during this time. In 2002, Lisa moved to work in a special school within the area. She was involved with children who had severe learning difficulties which affected all other areas of development.

Lisa is currently studying for the BA in Early Childhood Studies at Stranmillis and is due to graduate in June 2007.

Kelly Binnie – Assistant in Little Ducks

Kelly joined the Little Ducks in September 2006. She lives in Carrickfergus and has a 7-year-old son. Kelly began working in a pre-school in 2002 and completed the NVQ II Early Years through the Worktrack scheme. Upon completion of the course she successfully gained the Assistant Leader’s post in the same setting. Kelly has a certificate din Paediatric first aid and in 2005 she began studying towards her BA in Education, which she is due to complete in June 2007.

Elizabeth Jones - Part-time Cleaner/Caretaker

Elizabeth is a local mother and started working as Cleaner/Caretaker in September 2001. She previously worked in the community as a Home-Help. Elizabeth is a friendly and helpful member of staff whose responsibility is to ensure the quality of cleanliness within the Centre.
